At the beginning of things...

Pierce had spent enough time under intense scrutiny himself growing up, so it was only natural that upon entering a new city he found a job that was something along the lines of what he knew. Security. Watching things and/or people, making sure that no threats came to it from outside parties, or that the subject did not bring itself into harm or danger. Pierce was unquestionably good at his line of work. In his first few days, the entire group he worked with had stepped up its game. Without any real threats recently, they had begaun to slack off, but Pierce's natural enthusiasm for doing his job well at all times had rubbed off on some of them, and the others didn't want to look bad. He didn't stick out much at first, having an average appearance besides being abnormally fit, but then that could be explained away by his work position. Messy dark hair, equally shaded eyes, average height, radiating purpose and appearing very confident in his actions. Even the tattoo on his left shoulder and upper arm of a chained dragon was not out of place. The only thing off about him was how neutrally he approached everything; He did not often express an opinion unless it was logical, barely responded when others tried to make contact, and never really seemed to refer to any moral code except the bare minimum required to do his job properly and unobtrusively.

With an advanced paycheck, he had acquired a home in the city, and things had gone smoothly from there. The only problem now was what he had discovered while he was with an important client who had moved from a distant city. Very potentially bad things were happening there. Strange people had been sighted, but they tended to stay away from the people. For now. It was almost invisible to anyone who had not known Pierce a very long time, but something about the whole situation had him highly agitated. Big things were going to happen soon, and he did not particularly want to take part in them. This was saying quite a lot, considering how little he generally cared about anything.

The news spread slowly in this world, Pierce had long ago noticed, but somehow he had imagined that it would have passed more quickly through when the first rumours of unprovoked violence from an unknown source started. Especially so when, from what was said, you could draw that there would be more similar attacks. So when Pierce heard of what had been happening recently, attacks around the less populated cities with furries, he had to rapidly recalculate his actions. His peers and himself were being hired by important people in the government of his city, and he did not plan to be any part of it. He would do what he had to, when it came down to it, and if it seemed there was any minimal possibility of something going wrong, he would leave them.

"Hey, Pierce! Our client has given us a target; Recon and defensive tactics. We're heading out in 20. Be ready." One of his comrades shouted to him as he passed, presumably stuck as the messenger boy looking for each individual member on what had until recently been more or less down time since their last task. Pierce nodded, a habitual silent response to most contact between himself and his team. So this was how it would begin... ah, well. It had been nice while it lasted.
